Domain and filters - register, arrangement and searching

  • Domain is SwitchBackup internal organization unit of some devices. It could be only one, or any number of domains in application.
  • Domain mean group of records, grouping devices by common properities, branches, administrators, vendors, locations or any other way.
  • Every device could be in multiple domains. Each domain shared comon setting, which could be overwritten by unique device setting.
  • Domain settings includes possiblity to protect domain using by password.
Within each domain could be used quick filter to filter or lookup one or many devices. The filter is applied to hostname, IP address and internal description of each device. List of compliant devices can be sorted by some of that fields and can be exported as CSV file.

Telnet and Serial console terminal

Serial console terminal starts in new window by pressing icon on toolbox. Telnet terminal can be executed from device context menu or by pressing icon on tool palette. Both termnials use its context menu and advanced clipboard editor.

TFTP server, FTP server, TAR compress utility

Internal TFTP server and FTP server supporting anonymous access to allow file transfer from and to configured switch. TAR compress utility support compressing and decompressing files, downloaded from vendor pages and transfered from devices.

Interface status, CDP discovery and ICMP terminal

While backup, interface status of backuped device could be also recorded (this is an configurable option in application setting). Any of that interface can be enabled or dissabled from context menu then. The neighbor tab of Device Port Information window provide information about discovered neighbor devices, including theirs hostname, IP address and interlinked ports. There is also context menu providing quick calling of ICMP Terminal for link availability monitoring.

Asset list and Hardware and Software inventory

Like the backups, SwitchBackup can also collect and store inventory details each of switch or router. It includes information about firmware version and licence and can be easy exported as a file or printed.

Clone editor and switch configuration cloning

Clone editor is one of the most useful tools for simplified configuration of network switches and routers. Clone editor is such as "virtual device": You can copy any backup to the clone editor, than change th configuration, save it to the database and restore to any real device. It is used when you need to move your configuration to the new device with different hardware, or copy some proven configuration to the next device including little changes.

Backp difference searching, device difference searching

On the Device Backup Difference tab can be in two columns displayed two different backups, made from one or two different devices. Internal editor compare the two different backups and marks with colored lines the differences. You can easy find which changes was made in configuration of your switch or router between two different backups or which configuration parameters differ in two various devices.

On-line Status Analyzing - MAC addres tracking, list of dissabled interfaces

On the Analyzer tab in the On-line Status Analyze section there are tools for network device tracking. It walks all domain switches and ask for specified MAC address to find the port, where is the device connected. You can find there also tools for Dissabled interface listing, when you can get the list of all dissabled, or all error dissabled interfaces across of all your devices. Internal editor compare the two different backups and marks with colored lines the differences. You can easy find which changes was made in configuration of your switch or router between two different backups or which configuration parameters differ in two various devices.

Off-line Configuration Analyze - searching in saved configuration, port utilization query

On the Analyzer tab in the Off-line Configuration Analyze section there are tools for analyzing stored configuration backups. It walks all the last backups of the selected domain switches and ask for specified query and list the results. You can query for example "user Administrator" and as a resultset, there will be list of devices, where user Administrator is present. If you collect also the port status while backup the device, you can query here port utilization and port status of all your devices.

Code Snippets and bulk configuration

Except of backupset repository, SwitchBackup provide also the repository of configuration blocks - reusable configuration lines used for specific configuration task. There are some prepared configuration blocks, and ever user of the application can add some other. All that snippets can be applayed to one device via serial connection, or to one or many devices via TCP connection. That is the way, which can be used to mass configuration changes, as is the user account change, VLAN creating, monitoring server address change and many others.
